Keeping your pet away from your tree is no easy task but there are some things you can do that will help.

Keeping your pet away from your tree is no easy task but there are some things you can do that will help. Put the tree in a corner to give them less access. Put aluminum foil or a plastic drink bottle filled with knick-knacks on a low branch. This won’t keep them off the tree but it will alert you of an impending disaster.

Tinsel is pretty but can be dangerous for animals. Either don’t use it or only use it on the upper branches of the tree.

Don’t use lights on the lower branches. Animals can get tangled up in them or possibly get shocked if they bite through them.

Ornaments can be dangerous, too. Glass ornaments can break and might cut your pet. Smaller ornaments could even be eaten. A good replacement for glass ornaments are cloth or crocheted ornaments.

If you have a live tree, make sure to keep the needles cleaned up. These can be very dangerous to pets if they eat them.

Holly, mistletoe and poinsettia plans are poisonous to dogs and cats.

Edible decorations like candy canes or popcorn are too tempting. Even ornaments made of a flour and salt dough taste good to pets but can make them very ill or possibly cause death.

Have a happy and safe holiday!
