Annual Insurance review? Do people really review their insurance every year? Yes, some people do. It’s a good idea to review your insurance once a year or at least every two years.

When was the last time you reviewed your insurance?

When there is a change in your life, your insurance usually needs to change as well. Have you gotten married or divorced, had a baby, added a pet to the family, finished your basement, built an addition, enclosed a porch, bought a trampoline or pool, sent a kid off to college or made a big purchase like a piece of jewelry, musical instruments, or golf clubs?

Reviewing policies can have multiple benefits. Sometimes we discover a discount that you are eligible for and save you some money. Most importantly, you want to make sure you are properly covered in the event of a loss. We recently had a client who had a house fire. She had a ring worth $25,000 that was destroyed by the fire. Unfortunately, because she did not have the jewelry scheduled on her policy and had no records or photos to corroborate her claim, the insurance company was unable to reimburse her for this loss.

It’s a terrible thing to find out at the time of a claim that you do not have the coverage you need. Reviewing your policies usually takes less than an hour. It’s definitely worth an hour once every year or two to make sure you are properly protected.
